The six styles
| Style | What it does |
|---|---|
| Clearer | Keeps length and meaning, removes ambiguity and clutter |
| Shorter | Cuts at least a quarter of the words |
| Simpler | Plain English with short sentences and common words |
| Formal | Professional register for reports and emails to clients |
| Friendly | Warm and conversational |
| Paraphrase | New wording and structure, same meaning |
Use rewriting responsibly
Paraphrasing someone else’s work still needs a citation. Rewording a source to avoid plagiarism detection is still plagiarism under most academic integrity policies. Use the rewriter on your own drafts.
