Characters with or without spaces?

Most platforms (X, SMS, meta descriptions) count every character, spaces included. Some academic and translation work counts characters without spaces. Both are shown above.

Common character limits

Search result limits are really pixel widths, so treat the character numbers as guides. Emoji and some accented characters can count as two in SMS.

Questions people ask

Do emoji count as one character?

This counter counts each emoji as one character, as people see it. Some systems (SMS, certain databases) count many emoji as two units.

Do line breaks count?

Yes. A line break counts as one character with spaces, and is excluded from the count without spaces.
